The Curie family is renowned for their exceptional contributions to science, having won five Nobel Prizes across two generations.
Marie Curie, the most famous of the family, was awarded two Nobel Prizes: the first in Physics in 1903, shared with her husband Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel, for their work on radioactivity, and the second in Chemistry in 1911 for her discovery of the elements radium and polonium. Pierre Curie shared the Physics Nobel in 1903 with Marie, marking the couple’s joint scientific legacy.
Their daughter, Irène Joliot-Curie, along with her husband Frédéric Joliot-Curie, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935 for their work on artificial radioactivity, further cementing the Curie family’s extraordinary impact on the advancement of science.
